T-Systems Italy Leverages Comverse Converged IP Communications to Deliver Hosted Services
One-Stop Information and Communications Services
T-Systems Italy, the business customer brand of Deutsche Telekom, with over 700 employees, is one of the major global outsourcers in the Italian market. Able to combine different cutting-edge technological standards thanks to its deep knowledge of business processes in a variety of market segments, T-Systems offers its customers unique skills in the strategic outsourcing field, combined with innovative measurement models for Service Level Agreements (SLA).
To successfully meet the new challenges of today’s telecommunications market, the company also offers top-quality connectivity solutions and services, both in Italy and internationally. With its global network facilities based on the most advanced technologies, T-Systems stands out as a leading player in Italy offering value-added services and fixed-to-mobile solutions in the IP VPN (Virtual Private Network) market.
The Requirement: Wi-Fi and Hosted Communications Services
Interporto Campano is a transportation hub located in the province of Naples, situated at the convergence of all four major modes of transport – air, road, sea and rail. Its strategic location has made it a project of national importance in Central Southern Italy.
With more than 1,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) the area employs over 9,000 people. A decision was taken to promote the area as an integrated logistics district to optimize the different stages of the production and distribution chain, including goods storage, handling and shipment for all of the local businesses.
T-Systems Italy won a contract with Interporto Campano to provision and deliver value-added services for information and communications technologies (ICT), including next-generation and IP telephony services. The deployment would make Interporto Campano the main integrated logistics district in the region.
Starting in 2005, a campus-type, Wi-Fi network infrastructure for communications services was set up for Interporto Campano. This led to a need for a full range of hosted, next-generation communications services that deliver the same quality level as TDM-based services, yet maintain greater scalability and flexibility. By acquiring next-generation technologies, Interporto Campano aimed to offer advanced, fully-featured, yet easy-to-use services to end users, while optimizing operational resources for cost reduction.
The Challenge: Multi-Customer IP Configuration
T-Systems Italy sought a proven, carrier-class, all-IP solution that could provide high-quality, regulatory-compliant communication services. The system needed to be solid, flexible and reliable, and enable rapid service provisioning and multi-customer configuration. This would allow T-Systems Italy to host business services for multiple small service providers and other communities throughout Italy.
The challenge was to find an IP-based telecommunications platform that could provide customers with a full range of voice and data services, and could also be scaled up to host multiple service configurations.
The Solution: Comverse Converged IP Communications for all Business Needs
T-Systems Italy selected Comverse Converged IPCentrex solution for business services, including applications for the deployment of business trunking, voice VPN and IPCentrex™ services.
Why Selected: Expertise from Extensive IP Market Experience
T-Systems Italy chose Comverse for its proven converged IP communications technologies and expertise. Comverse extensive IP market experience includes two of the three largest VPN network deployments worldwide.
Comverse’s IP communications solutions are based on open, multi-protocol, IMS-compliant platforms with high scalability. The solutions provide enhanced flexibility in service creation, and come with a range of attractive applications for end-user self-care and conferencing services.
Comverse’s Converged IP Communications solution deploys applications for business trunking, voice VPN and IPCentrex™ services on a central system infrastructure that includes a call control platform, application server and media server to ensure maximum quality and flexibility in service provisioning, delivery and management. The services are easy-to-use, and end users can utilize any type of standard IP, wireless IP or new dual-mode phone.
The Comverse solution enabled T-Systems Italy to design and develop a high-end, comprehensive all-over-IP solution for the whole campus. Technologically innovative and flexible, the solution enabled T-Systems to fulfill customer expectations. Interporto Campano greatly appreciated T-Systems’ professional attitude, ability to think beyond predefined schema, and readiness to develop a joint solution tailored to very specific needs.
Moreover, T-Systems accompanied the customer from the outset, acting mainly as an advisor. Working in close cooperation, T-Systems Italy and Interporto Campano developed a common business strategy and business plan to address the setup and deployment of the basic infrastructure, all the way to a “go-to-market” model for innovative services.
The Results: Innovation in Action
Thanks to the Comverse solution, T-Systems enables Interporto Campano to benefit from lower operational costs and a wider range of services.
The deployment of Comverse Converged IPCentrex solution for business services has enabled T-Systems Italy to reap an array of benefits:
